State and local laws regulate the sale of alcoholic beverages. The City of Jackson
Revenue Department is responsible for the
beer permit application process for the City Beer Board. The beer permit applicant must appear before the Beer Board for consideration of his or her request for a beer permit. Members of City Council sit on the Beer Board, which meets on the first Tuesday of each month.
The State Alcoholic Beverage Commission authorizes liquor by-the-drink licenses. Local businesses will pay the same fee for their local license as their state license. The city will notify the business owner/operator of the need for the city license and the applicable fee once the stat e has authorized a liquor license.

Jackson Transit Authority provides bus service throughout the city, Monday through Saturday. Bus fare is $1.25 for adults, $0.60 for senior citizens and the handicapped (with a JTA ID), and $1.00 for students before and after school with free transfers. Bulky waste and limbs are picked up by city claw pile trucks.
Claw piles need to be separated as follows:
- Branches, brush, logs, and other green waste are categorized as bulky waste and should be separated from other piles.
- Bulky waste items also include discarded furniture (couches, recliners, tables), large appliances (refrigerators, ovens, TVs), and plumbing fixtures (bathtubs, toilets, sinks), etc. and should be separated from other piles.
Brush/Debris Piles must be less than 8ft in length.
Most appliances can be picked up. Appliances with Freon must have documentation from a certified repair man that substance was removed.
Do not place bulk waste near personal property (mailbox, fences, etc.), low utility lines, in street or drainage ditches, at fire plugs, next to utility poles or support cable, nor in any area that would imped the vision of pedestrian or motorists. Be sure your pile is accessible.

Cities may not spend public money for a private purpose and would, therefore, be prohibited from performing public services in the gated community, such as road maintenance, street name signs, trash collection, etc. Private and gated communities have association fees that cover maintaining the common areas and any buildings under association control.
The Jackson Municipal Regional Planning Commission oversees regulations on land development and makes recommendations to the City Council on such issues like zoning and annexation. If a sinkhole occurs on private property, it is the homeowner's responsibility and they will need to check whether the cost of any damage and repairs related to damage can be claimed as part of their insurance.
Snowplows are available to clear city streets. Priority will be given to major thoroughfares and intersections. Report hazardous road on our

Speed bumps will no longer be allowed on city streets as a traffic calming method in neighborhoods to encourage motorists to reduce their speed.
According to data received, speed bumps did not change driver behavior and encouraged other dangerous driving behaviors, such as going "off road" to avoid the bumps.
The speed bumps slowed down response time to emergency vehicles, diverted traffic to alternative residential streets, and caused damage to vehicles and ambulances.
Grate or curb inlets are some of the main features of the storm drain system. The
Street Department is responsible for cleaning inlets to minimize clogging in catch basins and eliminate ponding water along city streets. Visit our
