The overall responsibility for the design, placement, operation and maintenance of traffic control devices within the City of Jackson rests with the Engineering Department.

Traffic control signals, known to many as traffic lights, or "red" lights are devices placed along, beside, or above a roadway to guide, warn, and regulate the flow of traffic, which includes motor vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians, and other road users.

To ensure conformance with standards issued or endorsed by the State and Federal Government, the Federal Highway Administration’s Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices has been adopted by the City of Jackson as the official manual for traffic control devices. The Traffic Signalization Department provides the maintenance of all traffic signals within the city limits of Jackson.

To report a traffic signal concern, please contact the Engineering Department at 731.425.8220. Emergency situations after hours should be reported to the Police Department at 731.425.8400.
