City of Jackson 2021-2022 Leaf Pickup Season Begins
Posted on 10/27/2021

JACKSON, Tenn. ─ The City of Jackson is pleased to announce the start of the second season of our newly implemented citywide leaf pickup on Monday, November 1, 2021.

Through the new process of leaf pickup, during the 2020-2021 leaf pickup season, our city groundskeeping crew collected approximately 536 loads of leaves, which equal out to about 5 million pounds of leaves.

Groundskeeping Superintendent JD Sims says that the efficiency of how leaves are picked up throughout the city makes it easier on his crew and for Jackson residents.

“We took a look at the process in which we picked up leaves in our city and found a much simpler and efficient way to do it,” said Sims. “The previous process included 26 zones throughout the city. The new method covers the entire city in 4 districts.”

The process works by having dedicated leaf pickup crews assigned to each district where they will start at one side and sweep the entire district before starting over. This way, Jackson residents do not have to call to request leaf pick-up during the season due to the new sweep-thru method.

“Anyone who sees the leaf pickup crew coming through their neighborhood but didn't get their leaves out until a couple of days later will have to wait until the next sweep-through," Sims said. "If you see them in your neighborhood in early November, then don't think that's the only time they'll be there. Once crews have swept the entire area, they will be back. You haven't missed your chance.”

“Efficiency has been and continues to be one of the top priorities of my administration,” said Mayor Scott Conger. “Our groundskeeping crew under the leadership of JD Sims made last season’s leaf pickup a success and I am proud of the work they put in for our city.”
